Information in a linked OLE object exists in a source file outside your FileMaker Pro database. The source file can change — in a
field or on a
layout in your database — through another FileMaker Pro file, or with its original application. You may need to update the link to synchronize your view of a linked OLE object with the source file. Updating a link ensures that you're working with the most current information.
Links are always updated when an OLE object is activated. That is, when you perform an action on the object such as Edit or Play, the application that created the object starts. When a link is activated, it remains open until you close the open window. Deselecting the link by clicking outside the linked OLE object breaks the link connection (although the window remains open). Changes then made to the link are not reflected in FileMaker Pro until you update the link.
