Activating and deactivating OLE objects (Windows)
An OLE object is activated when you double-click the object in a FileMaker Pro container field or on a layout. Activating an OLE object starts the application that created the object, then runs the primary command (such as Play or Edit) for that application. When you work with an activated OLE object, the features, commands, and toolbar controls you can use depend on the application that created the object. You can activate an OLE object that's on a layout only when you're in Layout mode.
An OLE object is deactivated when you click in the FileMaker Pro file outside the object. Deactivating an OLE object closes the other application, stops sound and video objects that might be playing, and ends any editing sessions that are in progress.
If you switch to another application when an OLE object is active, then switch back to FileMaker Pro, the OLE object remains active.

Right-click the object and choose Open from the shortcut menu. Or, select the object, then choose Edit menu > Object > Open.
Right-click the object and choose a command from the shortcut menu. Or, select the object, choose Edit menu > Object, then choose a command.
Activate an OLE object using the primary command for the application that created the object
Clicking outside the container field closes the link connection but not the application. The application remains open until you close the server application. If you later open the application directly and make a change, you then need to open the FileMaker Pro file and choose Update Link in the Links dialog for the changes to appear.
Click an area of the FileMaker Pro file outside the object. Or, choose a different FileMaker Pro menu command. Or, switch to a different FileMaker Pro file.
