Transferring Files

Important: When you transfer a file to your iOS device, you are creating a copy of the remote file. When you make data changes to the local file, the remote file is not updated. You must use FileMaker Pro to import and update data. See FileMaker Go Development Guide.

Routine backups are strongly recommended. Use iCloud Backup or iTunes to back up the data on your iOS device, or see FileMaker Pro Help for information about backing up files on your computer.

There are several ways to transfer a file:

Transfer files to other devices, iCloud Drive, or third-party file providers

  1. If you are working in a file, tap Actions menu icon, then tap Launch Center Launch Center icon.
  2. Tap Device Device icon, then tap Edit file list icon.
  3. Tap the file to transfer, then tap Share icon.
  4. Choose an option for transferring the file:
    • AirDrop: Tap a recipient. Use this option to transfer the file to a nearby device that supports AirDrop.
    • Mail, Messages, or another service: Tap an option, or tap More to add another service to the list.
    • iCloud Drive or a third-party file provider: Tap Send To Send To icon to send a copy of the file to iCloud Drive or a third-party file provider. If the location you want is in a folder, tap the folder. Tap "Export to this location." To choose a different location, tap Locations, then tap a third-party file provider.

      To open the file in another app or in a different version of FileMaker Go, tap Open In Open In icon, then tap an option.

  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. After the file is transferred, tap Done.

Transfer files to your iOS device by using iTunes

  1. Connect your device to your computer. If the device is locked, enter the iOS passcode.
  2. In iTunes, select your device, then click Apps.
  3. In the File Sharing section, select FileMaker Go from the Apps list.

    If you have multiple versions of FileMaker Go installed, select the appropriate version.

  4. Do one of the following:
    • Click Add, select the files to transfer to your device, then click Add again.
    • Drag the files from your computer to the documents list in the File Sharing section.

Transfer files from your iOS device to your computer by using iTunes

  1. Connect your device to your computer. If the device is locked, enter the iOS passcode.
  2. In iTunes, select your device, then click Apps.
  3. In the File Sharing section, select FileMaker Go from the Apps list.
  4. In the documents list, select the files to transfer, then do one of the following:
    • Click “Save to,” select a destination for the files, then click Save To.
    • Drag the files to your computer.
