Recording and playing sounds in fields
You can record sound in FileMaker Pro, and play sounds in container fields.
Before you record sounds, make sure your computer has the proper equipment and software to record sounds:
 •
An audio input device (such as a microphone) that is compatible with your computer. (Some computers have built-in microphones.)
 •
Windows computers require a Windows-compatible sound card.
 •
The audio input device must be configured properly in the Hardware and Sound Control Panel (Windows Vista or Windows 7), Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel (Windows XP), or the Sound System Preference (Mac OS).
To record a sound:
1.
In Browse mode, click a blank container field, then choose Insert menu > Sound.
Or right-click the container field and choose Insert Sound.
Note  If the Sound or Insert Sound menu item is unavailable, be sure that the Optimize for Images option is selected in the Inspector.

In the Sound Record dialog box, click Record.
3.
Create the sound that you want to record.
For example, speak into the microphone, or play the sound that you want to record with your audio input device.
To pause during recording, click Pause.
4.
To stop recording, click Stop.
The sound icon Sound icon is displayed in the container field.
To play a sound:
Do one of these in Browse mode:
 •
Double-click the container field where the sound is stored (only if the field is not an interactive container. See Specifying formats for container fields and Working with content in interactive containers).
 •
Click the field, then press the Space bar.
Notes
 •
You can paste sounds from the Clipboard into container fields.
 •
You can drag and drop sounds into container fields. See Moving text and data with drag and drop.
 •
If a sound is compressed on a Mac OS-based computer, you might not be able to play it on a Windows-based computer.
